Chester Zoo: Lanterns and Light
I created this animation as part of a pitch for Chester Zoo's 2024 Lanterns and Light event. The brief given by the client was to emulate shilhouetted paper shadow puppets seen on lanterns with a mysterious tone like a dark faiy tale.
Time was very limited for this project so I created loose sketches to determine the style, character designs and key poses of the piece. Most of the time was spent in Blender, experimenting with lighting and animation.​
I had also been experimenting with creating rigs entirely with shape keys, which fit the style of this project perfectly, allowing me to create adjustable and stylised animation quickly.
This was a test render I created envisioning a more theatre-influenced approach with dramatic coloured lights and a flat single-layer set which would transition like props on a stage.
