Lucky Vs the Rig
This was a personal project created to replicate the look and feel of stop motion in 3D. This shot was inspired by behind the scenes of stop motion films where a rig is usually present to support the character, before it is digitally removed. I wanted to lean into this look and have the character acknowledge and even fight with the rig.
I also wanted to treat this shot as a stop motion project, working only with stepped keys and manually posing each frame. The shot was animated in Maya and then rendered in Blender, where I created the environment to make the shot look more authentic.
Process video showing the development of the shot from animation in Maya, to environment, texturing and rendering in Blender to finally compositing in DaVinci
